Resorts
Our base is in La Thuile which is located on the border with France
affording spectacular views of Monte Bianco on one side, and the Rutor
Glacier on the other.
The resort has 18 lifts and some 150Km of pistes and makes up part of
the 'Espace
San Bernardo' ski area. This extends into the linked French resort
of La Rosiere which has another 18 lifts.
The resort has
an excellent snow record, and a long season from the end of November
to end of April.

La Thuile is one of the few remaining jewels in the Alps. With a lift
system capacity of 31,000 skiers per hour, and only 2000 beds in 13 hotels,
the mountain often looks deserted and lift queues are almost
non-existent.
The runs support extensive skiing for all abilities including good
off-piste in the Col du Piccolo San Bernardo and heliskiing to two
nearby glaciers.
The
La Thuile ski school has many English speaking instructors, and
clients are sorted into English speaking groups. The Italians
are renowned for their love of children so you know the kids are in
safe hands.
The
resort has not yet succumbed to the ridiculous prices charged by many
other mountain villages and offers excellent value for money. A
fresh espresso in a mountain restaurant is still €1-1.50 (2007) for example.
There are several restaurants where you can enjoy an excellent evening
meal with wine for around €15 per head.
Whilst most skiers will find perfect enjoyment in Espace San Bernardo,
the location of La Thuile in the Aosta Valley means that many other
resorts can be reached within the hour. Local resorts include Chamonix,
Courmayeur and Pila.
Accommodation
in La Thuile is strictly limited due to very tight planning
restrictions. It is dominated by the Planibel Complex consisting
of a large 4-star hotel and several blocks of self-catering apartments
(2-6 persons). In addition to this, La Thuile has a number of
small family run hotels. Bluski also has exclusive access to a
number of private apartments - a real home from home. We
choose accommodation based on our own exacting standards. If
there is one piece of really important advice we can give, it is 'book
early to avoid disappointment'. A cliche maybe, but so true in
La Thuile. Accommodation is very limited relative to the ski
area, and bookings are regularly taken a year in advance. |
